This page provides access to the full list of electronic resources provided by AUB Library.

These online resources are search tools that provide access to thousands of articles from journals and magazines as well as other information sources. Most only provide abstracts whilst others give full-text access to articles, others provide access to images, video or sound.

If you are accessing off-campus all of these resources will require you to log in using your AUB username and password to gain access. Other resources will require you to log in both on and off-campus before you can use them.

AUB Library E-journals

ABM (ARTbibliographies Modern)

Provides detailed references to modern and contemporary art, including photography, fashion, theatre arts and crafts in major art journals, books, museum bulletins and exhibition catalogues from 1982 to the present.

American Film Institute Catalog

Produced in collaboration with the American Film Institute, the American Film Institute Catalog is the premier resource for studying American motion pictures. It contains thousands of data entries on films ranging from well-known studio blockbusters to obscure, once-lost period films. The catalog is a valuable tool for film research and preservation activities.

Archival Sound Recordings

The British Library's website gives UK HE and FE staff and students free access to over 12,000 recordings including:

  • 400 popular music tracks 1930s-90s
  • art and design interviews

BFI Live

The BFI's online video channel that explores film and TV culture. With interviews and expert insights, unique footage and forgotten favourites.

BFI Online

Online encyclopaedia of British film and television featuring hundreds of hours of clips from the collections of the BFI National Archive, and several hours of recorded interviews with film and TV personalities. These clips are supplemented by commissioned material from expert writers, alongside thousands of stills, posters and press books.

Box of Broadcasts (BoB)

Online resource for recording and viewing programs broadcast on terrestrial television and free-to-view channels.

Important Information about Box of Broadcasts. If you have previously used Box of Broadcasts via the Athens system and you have created saved clips and playlists, you will need to migrate your Box of Broadcasts account before using the new log in system if you wish to keep these. Film Index International

Bibliographic references to 100,000 films collated by the British Film Institute over the past 70 years as well as 40,000 biographical references to personalities.

FIAF International Index to Film Periodicals

Created by the International Federation of Film Archives (FIAF), this resource indexes more than 300,000 articles from 300 of the world's foremost academic and popular film journals, dating from 1972 onwards, plus full text content from some of the most important journals. The database also incorporates Treasures from the Film Archives, which identifies silent film holdings in archives around the world, and the International Directory of Film/TV Documentation Collections.

Historic Digimap

Part of the Digimap resource, Historic Digimap provides access to map data at scales ranging from 1:10,560 to 1:500 and dates ranging from 1843 to 1996; available for making maps online or for download.

HomeBuildLife by WGSN

Available on campus only. HomeBuildLife is a trend forecasting resource from WGSN for textiles, interiors, product design, retail merchandising and lifestyles. It provides reports on current themes in these areas looking at colour, style, materials and culture, providing market intelligence and analysis along with image collections for download.

Ingenta Journals

One of the largest websites for research articles, providing article summaries from over 25,000 publications. Covers all subject areas including humanities and social sciences, engineering and technology.

Institution of Civil Engineers Virtual Library

Full text of ICE’s massive archive (including 18,000 illustrated papers) available on and off campus. Covers civil engineering, architecture, the built environment, building and construction, environmental studies, land management, property management, planning, transportation and urban design.

International Index to Music Periodicals Full Text

IIMP Full Text is the leading specialized index to periodicals for the general, undergraduate, and advanced study of music, and the only electronic index with abstracts to current music periodicals. It contains more than half a million indexed journal articles, the majority of which index the most recent eight years of publication, though some start as early as 1874. It also provides access to 125 full text journals covering cover both scholarly and popular periodicals in the areas of classical music, opera, jazz, popular music and pop culture, music education, musicology, music theory, performance and many others.

JISC Media Hub

JISC MediaHub is a new multimedia platform offering a wealth of digital image, video and audio collections accessible from a single interface, replacing Education Image Gallery, Film and Sound Online and Newsfilm Online. The new platform offers access to free images, video and audio content licensed for educational and research use, and provides cross-searching across all the collections previously available only through separate web sites.

lynda.com offers training videos that cover a wide range of software, business and creative skills, from 3D animation to web development and office software. Content is added on a weekly basis so that training videos covering the latest version of the software are available. You can choose to watch short individual videos to provide a quick solution or follow an entire course to be awarded a certificate at the end.
There are currently 1,530 courses and over 85,000 individual tutorials. Tutorials are presented by top professionals in their fields, with an ability to share their knowledge and industry experience and are available on or off campus.

Newsbank

Full text access to the newspaper archives of The Times, Sunday Times, Daily Telegraph, Sunday Telegraph, Independent/On Sunday, Guardian, Observer, Daily Mail, Mail on Sunday, London Evening Standard and other national and local newspapers. Newspapers can be searched separately or collectively.

NewsFilm Online via JISC Media Hub

Available both on and off campus, NewsFilm Online offers access to over 3,000 hours of television news and cinema newsreels, selected from the huge ITN/Reuters Television archives. The video database is fully searchable and clips can be viewed online or downloaded.

Oxford Art Online

Comprehensive searchable reference resource covering all aspects of the visual arts from prehistory to date. The dictionary contains 41,000 articles written by leading scholars and experts in each subject. Articles provide links to maps and diagrams as well as 100,000 searchable images from the Bridgeman Art Library Online, all supported by extensive bibliographies.

Pidgeon Digital

Online collection of illustrated talks by architects and related designers. Begun in 1979 speakers range from those working in the first half of the 20th century to contemporary practitioners and cover topics within the field including theory, history and practice and provides a unique library of contemporary attitudes in architecture.

Project Muse

Full text access to current content from prestigious humanities and social science journals published by some of the world's leading university presses and scholarly societies. Coverage includes film, theatre and the performing arts, cultural studies, history and philosophy.

Routledge Performance Archive

Routledge Performance Archive is brand new resource produced in partnership with Digital Theatre, providing unique access to an unprecedented range of audio-visual material from past and present practitioners of performance.

Included here are interviews with key figures in theatre history and contemporary practice; masterclasses with specialist actor trainers from around the world; unique footage direct from the legendary practitioners themselves; excerpted and full-length contemporary productions; and documentaries previously unavailable to global audiences. The video material spans more than fifty years of documented work direct from renowned practitioners and specialists, and ranges across the entire spectrum of theatre topics.

A gateway to digital images for use in art education covering applied arts, architecture, design, fine art and media.

WGSN

Available on-campus only. WGSN is a professional fashion, trend forecasting and style analysis site, used by the fashion, retail and design industries and with a global coverage. Includes articles on current fashion shows, retail trends, style forecasting, lifestyle, as well as style reports from cities around the world and image collections. Also covers areas such as make-up, textiles and interior design.

Zetoc
